Rob Holden

History:

Rob Holden was a folk artist from the Philadelphia suburbs in Pennsylvania. It is likely Holden was involved in contemporary music initially. Holden sings about how he was formally a guitarist until he found Christianity. Holden began performing gospel music at the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield in the early 1970's.

Holden, during his time as a churchgoer in Springfield, recorded one album. Titled "Sunshine Smile", the recording features eleven gospel compositions by Holden. He was accompanied by himself on 12-String Acoustic Guitar. The recording was engineered and produced by Peter Smith and released locally in 1978. The album is straight up folk gospel.

It is unclear what happened to Holden after this album was produced. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Sunshine Smile (1978, Not On Label)

Rating: 5/10

A fine folk record overall but nothing special. Holden’s voice is extremely similar to Bruce Rector, I mean it's truly uncanny.  Mediocre compositions with choppy lyrics but nice chord progressions and good guitar playing. A little too overly preachy as well. Would have been a lot better if it was a full band instead of acoustic because it feels like the recording is missing something.
