Prospectus
History:
Prospectus was a cover band comprised of musicians mainly from Philadelphia. The band formed after the psychedelic group, The Kynd, broke up. The Kynd were based out of eastern Pennslvania. John Vosburg (guitars) and Jay Harvey (drums) formed a new band after The Kynd’s dissolution. They recruited fellow Pensylvanian musicians Harry Zimmerman and Bill Carroll on keyboards and bass guitar respectively and then recruited Bill Bragg as their singer. The outfit performed covers in a predominantly funky blues rock style and toured up and down the Delaware River in between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The group only released one album, “With Friends”, that was recorded live in 1971. The gatefold double album features over an hour and a half of material and pictures (with short bios) of each member of the band. All members were 20-21 years old during the recording. It’s unclear what happened to the band or the musicians after the recording.
Review:
Prospectus - With Friends (1971?, Bristol Records)
Rating: 6/10
Prospectus was an extremely competent band with a great singer, however the absence of original material severely hurts the group’s only appearance on record. “Feelin’ Alright” and “The Letter” are reimagined enough and performed very well. It’s a fine jam album but it’s very lengthy (over an hour and a half), and is quite derivative. Still an above average record.
