Chrissie Hall
History:
Chrissie "Chris" Hall was a folk singer-songwriter from California. All signs point to her originating from the San Francisco bay area. Hall sang and played guitar at local coffeehouses and club venues.
In the late 1960's, Hall visited Action Records in San Mateo and recorded her lone studio album. The album featured covers of popular folk songs, including many written by Bob Dylan. One original tune, "The Ties That Bind", appears on the recording. Hall accompanied herself on acoustic guitar during the session.
The album was issued in a generic white cover and was released most likely in 1967. It's unclear what happened to Hall after this album. If you have any information, please email me. I would love to learn more about this mysterious album.
Review:
Chris Hall (196?, Action Records)
Rating: 7/10
A fine folk record with good vocals and interesting guitar playing. Hall uses the slap technique on a few songs to add some percussive flare. Her original, “The Ties That Bind”, is a clear standout. Nice guitar picking and vocals. “Far Side Of The Hill” and “Try For The Sun” are great too. Rest of the album is average folk music, nothing bad though.
