Don Greene & Michael Jason
History:
Don Greene and Michael Jason are an unknown duo from somewhere in the mid-atlantic region, most likely either Pennsylvania or New York. The duo mainly performed folk and country blues with heavy use of harmonica and acoustic guitars.
The duo recorded one album, untitled, on the self-owned label Rebellion Records. The label reflects the protest lyrics and anti-war message of the album. The heavily blues and country influenced folk album features acoustic guitars, upright bass, harmonica, and mandolin. Most of the songs are original compositions with strong vocals. It was most likely recorded and pressed in 1971 at Frankford / Wayne Recording Labs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Michael Jason's name may be incorrectly spelled Micheal Jason on the label. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
Review:
Don Greene & Micheal Jason (Rebellion Records, 197?)
Rating: 7/10
Very solid blend of Americana music from a couple of college students (I suspect, due to some mid 60's slang in the lyrics). This one is not for everyone. Half loner folk and half country blues. The originals have good lyrics and good feel, especially on the B-Side. My favorites are the perfect folk track "Keep On Keepin' On", the emotional "Kennedy Blues", and the jammy seven minute epic "John Brown". Very solid vocals (except for two tracks with guest vocalists), nice guitar work, and some really exceptional harmonica playing.
