The New Salvation Band

History:

The New Salvation Band was a lounge rock group probably active in the late 1960's and early 1970's. It is unknown where the band was from but I believe they were from the Chicago, Illinois area. The group consisted of four members including an organist, bassist, drummer, and guitarist. I believe three of them sang. Who played what is unknown.

The quartet recorded and released one album, titled "The New Salvation Band" most likely in 1970. The album is a mix of dreamy psychedelic soul and typical poorly executed lounge rock. The front cover is a generic stock cover and the label is their own creation. The back cover features the quartet standing outside what I believe is The Wilmette Temple in Northern Illinois.

Nothing is known about the band's fate nor if they released any other music. If you have any information about this group please email me! Thanks!

Review:

The New Salvation Band (1970, NSB Records)

Rating: 6/10

Features the worst Beatles cover ever and still earns decent marks. Lots of real dreamy tunes with good vocals and nice organ. Produced well and is arranged nicely. “Fire And Rain” is better than the original with soulful vocals, lush lead guitar swirls, and cool drumming (a reverb effect was added I believe). “I Just Can’t Help Believin’” is fun with upbeat organ and good vocals.

“Make It With You” and “For The Good Times” follow the dreamy psychedelic soul theme. “Evil Ways” has some wah wah for what it’s worth but Side B is relatively boring and stereotypical for the lounge genre. 6 good or decent tracks out of 10.
